Days 4-9: The... Umm... Art That Wasn't There?

One day this week I'll update a ton at once and then delete this post and pretend like I didn't fall so far behind and no one will know any better.

In related news, I'm going to do some themed weeks. Directors/Genres/New Waves etc. And maybe one piece that will encompass a whole week, but maybe in a sort of pseudo comic, one panel at a time type deal. If I do that then I know exactly which scene I'm doing.

Day Three: V for Vendetta.

I made up for the horrible mess of last time with this, I think.

I know, I'm behind, but it's a busy time of year. I'm hoping to get a day off soon to just sit and catch up. It's the 5th now, and I'm on three.

Anyway, Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta, where she famously shaved off all her hair and looked just as tasty as she's ever done. It's not my favourite movie ever, but I've always got time for her. The short in Paris je T'aime with her in is probably my favourite.

Also, she's the youngest ever person to serve on the jury at the Cannes Film Festival.

I'm going to add some colour to this one day, but I thought I'd post it like this in case I butcher it.

Day Two: I'm Not There

In one hour past my deadline.

Some personal stuff came up, which I'm not going in to.

I'm seriously not impressed with this, I rushed it, I don't like it. But you have to take the bad with the good, I suppose.

I'm going to try and get less safe with my work too. If I'd had more time I was going to spend longer on the sketch, and paint in to the hair with a toothbrush, things like that. Expect some things that aren't as standard soon, I hope.

Ok, the solicitations: It's Cate Blanchett from I'm Not There, playing Bob Dylan (Or just a crappy portrait of Dylan depending on how you look at it). This movie got me in to him, my favourite part being the young runaway who models himself after Dylan, but names himself after Woody Guthrie. Come to think of it, I should have painted that kid's guitar if I'd had more time.

Oh God, the more I look at it, the more I hate it. I hope I get to redo it. I suppose it looks slightly better on full view and in real life too.

Difficult second album.

Day One: Into The Wild

In one hour and five minutes before my deadline.

I'm kicking this thing off with a film that has been consistantly in my top 5 of all time since I first saw it, Sean Penn's Into The Wild.

It's a fantastic true story of a guy, Christopher McCandless (Or Alexander Supertramp) who becomes disillusioned with normal American life and sets off on an adventure across America with the aim to end up alone, in Alaska living among the wilderness. It's brilliant and I can't recommend it enough.

Someone once told me that the only way they can describe it is that it fills them with warmth, which is pretty much true.

This one was hard enough to force myself to finish, just 364 more to go. I'm going to start the next one right away, I'm on a roll.

Hopefully posting should begin before the first of Febuary, I was delayed due to a couple of serious things I needed to sort out.

Also, I have three Munnys that I'll be painting as part of this, which is pretty cool.

Being a cinema student and amateur artist, for one entire year I will draw or paint a shot, scene or something memorable such as a character or a location from a movie each day.

I am inspired by, and totally ripping off, 365 Days of Star Wars and Tolkein Per Diem just with far less dedicated fanboy enthusiasm, decisiveness and imagination in a bid to improve my art skills, to have a tangible achievement by the end of the year and to fill up my copious amounts of spare time.

Sometimes the artwork will feature some of my many favourite films, sometimes it will feature some of the classics, and sometimes it will feature complete turkeys. Each piece of artwork will, however, hopefully mean something to me in at least a small way.

I have not in any way decided on what I will be painting, and probably will not until I reach in to my DVD collection and pick something out. That means that if anyone wants to commission me to paint a scene or shot from one of their favourite movies (Within reason, of course) then I have no problem at all with that. Alternatively, I am willing to sell any of the pieces that I choose to paint myself, aside from a select few. Prices will be based on the complexity of the piece, naturally. However, they will be completely affordable. I am not doing this for money, just to progress.

All my pieces will be experimental, for the most part. I will be trying new techniques and combining media etc, so I wont go in to a piece with a view to create a detailed oil masterpiece or anything like that. I will have no idea what I'll come out with before I go in.

Aside from that, my only other rule is no 'Dark Knight'.
